Wayne Hage Obituary, Akron, Iowa Resident Has Sadly Passed Away

Wayne Hage Obituary, Death – Wayne Albert ‘Herk’ Von Hagel, 75, of Akron, Iowa, died at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City on Friday, April 14, 2023. Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 p.m.,

with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Visit www.rexwinkelfh.com to send condolences. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Wayne Arnold and Susanna Lavonne ‘Bonnie’ (Hill) Von Hagel had Wayne Albert ‘Herk’ Von Hagel on December 11, 1947 in Akron, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron where he had 14 years of perfect attendance at Sunday

School. Akron High School graduated Herk in 1966. He married Margaret ‘Vicki’ Kerr on September 1, 1967, and they divorced. Herk joined the Marines after attending Westmar College in Le Mars. He served at numerous duty stations including being stationed in Vietnam and flew 147 combat missions as a helicopter door gunner. Herk

proudly served his country. Herk returned to Akron after being honorably discharged for medical reasons. Herk enjoyed running Brown’s Lawn Service. On April 16, 1982, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron, Herk married his angel, Pam. He was the administrative board chairman of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a member of Hoschler American Legion Post 186 in Akron where he was a prior leader. Masonic Lodge member.

Herk liked hunting, fishing, golfing, and bowling. He loved to garden; having planted several roses and vegetable gardens throughout the years. He was part of Akron Fire-Rescue’s Flight 232 response team. Herk proudly celebrated 11 years of sobriety in November 2022. Herk is survived by his wife, Pam; son, Robert (Angela) Von Hagel

of Le Mars, IA; daughter, Heather (Gordon) Johnson of Akron; special nephew, Clark (Sam) Von Hagel of Sioux City, IA; six grandchildren: Tyler (Hannah) Johnson of Ida Grove, IA, Ashley (Brian Scott, fiance) Johnson of Mission, SD, Samantha (Cody) Davis of Omaha, NE, and Conner, Emily, and Heather Von Hagel of Le Mars; two great granddaughters: Tori and Morgan; a great grandson due in July 2023 Herk is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Susan Terrell; father in law, Lyle Quick; and two furbabies: Callie and Dulce.
