Walter Asbil Obituary, Anglican Diocese of Niagara Mourns Walter Asbil – Death Cause

Walter Asbil Obituary, Death – We are passing on the news that Bishop Walter Asbil, the ninth Bishop of Niagara, passed away on April 8, 2023 at the age of 90. This information is being shared with a heavy heart. During the more than six decades that Bishop Walter spent serving in ordained ministry, he was devoted to the service of both our diocese and the Anglican Church of Canada as a whole. On Monday, April 24, at one o’clock in the afternoon, a memorial service honoring the life and career of Bishop Walter will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church.

The worship service will be broadcast online in real time through the parish’s official YouTube channel. The family will receive guests at St. George’s on Sunday, April 23, from 6 to 9 o’clock in the evening. The Right Reverend Susan Bell, who serves as the current Bishop of Niagara, was quoted as saying that “Bishop Walter was a faithful and dedicated servant who led the diocese with the heart of a pastor.” “He was wise and compassionate, and those whom he influenced throughout the Church remember fondly his commitment to equipping the saints for ministry.”

Bishop Asbil was appointed to his position as the diocesan bishop of the Diocese of Niagara in 1991 and remained in that role until the end of 1997, when he retired. On Monday, April 24, at one o’clock in the afternoon, there will be a memorial ceremony held at St. George’s Church in St. Catharines to celebrate his life. It will be broadcast live over the YouTube channel associated with the church. St. George’s Church will be open for visitation beginning at six o’clock in the evening on Sunday, April 23, and continuing until nine o’clock that night.

The Bishop Asbil family, including his wife Mavis, his children Brent, Andrew, Mark, and Cynthia, and his grandsons, as well as his friends and colleagues, have my warmest condolences during this time of celebration and mourning. “The diocese offers its deepest sympathy to Bishop Asbil’s family, including his wife Mavis, his children Brent, Andrew, Mark, and Cynthia, and his grandchildren.
