Sybil Howard Obituary, Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida Mourns Sybil Howard – Death Cause

Sybil Howard Obituary, Death – The death of Sybil Howard, wife of the Reverend Canon Norman Howard, took place on March 28, 2023. The diocese is passing along the news of her passing with deepest condolences. Her passing came not long after that of the Reverend Canon Norman Howard, who passed away on September 16, 2022. John Howard and Elizbeth Howard are their offspring, and they are the only ones to survive them.

On July 28, 1959, the Reverend Canon and Mrs. Howard exchanged vows and were united in marriage in London. John and Elizabeth Howard, who were identical twins, were their only children. After completing his studies at the University of London and Kings College in 1957, Father Howard attended the Seminary at St. Boniface Warminster to earn his priesthood. Prior to that, he was a member of the Royal Air Force and served throughout World War II. In 1959, he was given the holy order of priesthood at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London by the Bishop of London.

Fr. Howard was summoned to serve as the Rector of St. Matthew’s Church, Claremont, and its five missions in Jamaica by the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel, which led to his and Mrs. Howard’s relocation to that country. During a visit by a delegation, he became acquainted with Father Redfern of St. Wilfred’s in Sarasota, and in 1969, he was given the opportunity to become the Vicar of St. John the Divine. In 1973, he was given the position of Rector of St. John the Divine, and from 1975 until his retirement in 1992, he served in the same capacity at Good Samaritan in Clearwater. During his retirement, he worked as a supply priest all throughout the diocese in addition to serving as the Interim Rector of St. Anne of Grace in Seminole.
