Roger Smith Obituary, Death – Roger Keith Smith, who was 70 years old, passed away unexpectedly on April 13, 2023 at Wayne UNC Healthcare. On June 14, 1952, he was born in Wayne County to the late John Roger Smith and Viola Carter Smith. Both of his parents have since passed away. After more than 30 years of service, Roger took early retirement from Southco Distributing in Goldsboro. Because
he spent his childhood on the family farm, Roger developed a deep appreciation for the natural world and for all the different kinds of animals he encountered. He never failed to derive pleasure from mending things around the garden or tending to his poultry. On Tuesday, April 18, 2023, the family will greet friends at Seymour Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and at other times, they will do so at their home on Vinson Road. A memorial service for Roger’s family only will be held as a way to remember him. Roger is survived by his
wife of 46 years, Kay M. Smith; his son, Sam Smith and his wife, Ashley; his niece, LuJene Smith Merritt and her husband, Buddy; his nephew, Beaux Bass; and a great nephew, Chris Merritt. Roger’s sisters-in-law, Pat Smith, Ann Smith, and Ramona Barbour all survive him. His son, Jesse Paul Smith, as well as his brothers Ray Smith, John Wayne “Bud” Smith, and Ken Smith, his sister
Sandra Smith Sherman, and his niece Angie Sherman Reiman all passed away before him. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by all of these people. Instead of sending flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of their loved one to a charity of one’s choosing.
