Mina Wahidi Obituary, Death – Please consider doing so if you are able. We love you Mina. Wilhemina (Mina) Wahidi was known for being the founder of The Compassionate Society, which she started in her basement with one rack of clothes. It has since developed into The Compassion Society, a non-profit organization serving approximately 100 people and more, including children, who require assistance with food and clothing.
More specifically, The Compassion Society provides three programs: free clothing, a small food cupboard consisting of bread, fruits, and vegetables, and referrals to community service organizations. Mina devoted her time and energy to enhancing the quality of life of people in Burlington who were living in poverty. Through her work as a volunteer and her leadership, Mina gives our community a sense of optimism.
My sister Mina Wahidi was such a generous person, and now it is our chance to repay the kindness she showed to others and the community throughout her time here. I deliver you this news with the deepest regret and sadness. It would mean so much to her three children, me, Kieran Michael DeVoy, Desmond Devoy, and our dad Desmond Devoy if you could donate anything to help with the costs of her funeral.
Mina was able to make a significant and extremely beneficial impact on the lives of a great number of people living in our community. Whether it was ensuring that the high school students got their hours, or driving around handing out pizzas, a pot or pan that she thought you could use, Mina was able to make a difference. Because of all of the unselfish and compassionate work that she did for those who were in need.
She was recognized as Burlington’s Citizen of the Year in 2009 by the city of Burlington as well as a lengthy list of various clubs and organizations in the city. This award acknowledges and celebrates the selfless and enthusiastic service provided by an individual who has made a significant and admirable contribution to the community. Among the many things I remember about Mina, one of the things that stands out to me most is her hilarious sense of humor. The city of Burlington has suffered the loss of a titan; may she finally find peace.
