Melvyn Sepic Obituary, Death- Melvyn Sepic, who passed away on Monday at the age of 82 and had been the president of the Laurel Highlands School Board for a good number of years, was a longtime member of the board.
In 1963, while the Laurel Highlands School system was not yet in existence, Sepic was hired as a teacher for what is now known as the Laurel Highlands School system.
He worked in the field of education for what seemed like the majority of his whole life. He was given the job of Assistant Principal initially at North Laurel Junior High School, and then later received the promotion to hold that position at both North and South Laurel Junior High Schools. In 1979, he was promoted to the position of Principal of the Junior High Schools and assigned the task of leading those schools.
Throughout the course of his career, he was responsible for a wide range of responsibilities, including those of high school wrestling coach, Federal Funds Coordinator, and Buildings and Grounds Manager, among other positions. Following his retirement from Laurel Highlands in the year 2000, he went on to become the Principal of St. Mary (Nativity) Catholic elementary school, a position he held for the succeeding ten years (until the school’s closure in 2011).
He served in this capacity until the school’s final year of operation in 2011. He continued to serve in this role up until the year 2011, when the school was finally shut down. When Mel made the choice to run for a seat on the Laurel Highlands School Board, he did it at a time when he was unemployed for the very first time in his life. He was able to win the election in 2015 because to his strong campaign. Before his death in 2015, he served as President of the Board of Directors till his passing.
