Lelia Mercer Obituary, Death – Lelia M. Mercer, who was 96 years old at the time of her death on April 7, 2023, passed away at Hutsonwood of Brazil. Lelia Johnson was born to Roy and Modesta (Moss) Johnson on August 20, 1926. Both Roy and Modesta (Moss) Johnson have now passed away. 1944 was the year that Lelia completed her high schooling at Reelsville and earned her diploma. Lelia went on a visit to see her boyfriend Halford, who was serving in the military during World War II, after she had finished her schooling and received her certificate.
It was getting close to the time for Halford to go for overseas duty. They reached the decision that they should get married during her stay, and ever since that time, the two of them have remained together as a pair. Because Lelia found fulfillment in attending to the requirements of her family, she devoted the most of her time to working inside the home. As a cook, she was held in extremely high esteem across the community.
In addition to her other responsibilities, Lelia was a mother of two children and worked as a payroll clerk at Inland Containers in Indianapolis. She was the wife of a farmer for a good number of years, and throughout that period, she put in some effort herself by laboring in the fields on occasion.
Angela Mercer, who was Lelia’s great-grandchild, and a number of Lelia’s aunts, uncles, and cousins had all left this world before Lelia did. Before Lelia, her parents, one brother named William Henry Johnson, one step sister named Beverly Torr, and one great-grandchild all went away. Lelia is survived by her devoted husband, Halford K. Mercer, two children, Sonna M. Mehne and her late husband James R. Mehne Sr., and Gary K. Mercer and his wife McKarla, three grandchildren, Jim Mehne Jr., Bobby Mehne (Josie), and John Mercer, and great grandchildren, Tyler Mehne, Kayla Mehne, and Aiden Mehne, as well as siblings, Angie Johnson and Kenneth Johnson. October was the month that Lelia went away. (Shirley).
