Gladys LaPlante Obituary, Death – On Saturday, April 8, 2023, Gladys A. LaPlante, who had reached the age of 80, passed away while surrounded by her family at her home in Springfield. She was the daughter of Elmer and Catherine (Alexander) Fleming and was born on July 18, 1942 in Wolcott, Vermont. Her mother’s maiden name was Alexander. She was married to Leon “Terry” Sweetser, who passed away on June 24, 1969. He was the one who died first. She tied the knot with David E. LaPlante Sr. on November 3, 1970, and he passed away on January 19, 2023, before she did.
After spending 21 years working for the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department, Gladys went on to spend 24 years working as a licensed nursing assistant at the Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center. She spent several years participating in leagues at the Park St. Bowl, where her favorite game was candlepin bowling. The most important thing in Gladys’ life was her family. She is survived by her stepchildren, David LaPlante Jr., Ronald LaPlante, Alan LaPlante, and Diane LaPlante, as well as her three sons,
Mark Sweetser, Stuart Sweetser, and Michael Sweetser. Rikki Sells, Mark Sweetser Jr., Christopher Sweetser, Brittney Adams, Brandi Brown, and Courtney Rogers are her grandchildren, and she has one sister named Evelyn Cleveland who also raised her children. Her son Leon D. Sweetser, who was born in 1963, passed away before she did. Her parents and five of her siblings, namely Vera Corliss, Arlene Fleming, Pauline Salls, Jeannie Jewell, and Leslie “Bud” Fleming, passed away before she was born. On the 16th of June, 2023, at 10:00 AM, there will be a service held at the graveside in the Pine Grove Cemetery in North Springfield, Vermont.
