Dick Longstaff Obituary, Death – I regret to inform you that on Thursday, April 13th, our honorary member Dick Longstaff passed away peacefully at home with his sons Adrian and John and other loved ones at his side. It’s hard for me to put into words how much Dick enjoyed his time spent at Bishop Auckland Golf Club, where he served as a trustee, treasurer, junior liaison officer, committee member, and honorary member.
To the point that he and his late wife Marie wrote a great centenary book about the club’s first century of existence, which was published in the mid-1990s. Dick’s lifelong passion for the game of golf has even influenced his sons, Adrian and John. Former club champion, county youth champion, team player, and county player Adrian is now having a long and fruitful career with Mizuno and John. I think it’s safe to say that after cheering for John on the men’s team, Dick became our biggest fan.
One of Dick’s greatest loves was cheering on the Bishop Auckland Golf Men’s Team over the years; the current team bought him a set of team colors before the 2016 season to show their appreciation for his loyalty to the club and all of its champions. I can’t even begin to express how much we will all miss you, Dick, I am truly devastated. I have been so fortunate in my time as a player and now as the team manager to have known and had the support of this wonderful man on Wednesday evenings. Please know that Adrian, John, and their entire family are in our prayers during this time.
