Bobby Smith Obituary, Death – At the age of 84, Bobby Hampton Smith, Frieda Smith’s spouse, died away peacefully at Baptist Health Lexington on April 9th, 2023. On October 13, 1938, he was born in Versailles, Kentucky, to the late Marion D. Smith and Velma Brown Smith. His parents have now passed away. After graduating from Versailles High School in 1956, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was there for a total of six years. After 37 years of employment, Bobby eventually took his retirement from IBM/Lexmark.
However, he was not one to be idle, so he came out of retirement and worked for Hertz for the next 18 years. Bobby was a prior Grandmaster in the Masons, a founding charter member of Southside Christian Church, and a member of Capital City Christian Church. In addition, Bobby was a member of Capital City Christian Church. He took pleasure in activities such as fishing, carpentry, refinishing furniture, watching Kentucky football, maintaining a beautiful yard, and traveling with friends and family all over the world. Nevertheless, spending time with his loved ones brought him the utmost contentment.
Bobby will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Frieda Copher Smith, children, Mark (D’anne) Smith, Carrollton, Kentucky, Theresa (Rusty) Lamb, Floyds Knobs, Indiana, Michael (Gretchen) Smith, Versailles, Kentucky, grandchildren, Breanna (Benji) Works, Matthew (Ashley) Smith, Rachel (Hunter) Byerley, Eli Smith, Gus Smith, great-grandchildren, Bo, Grace, Bauer, and Brayden.
On Tuesday, April 11, 2023, the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home will be open for visitation beginning at 4:00 pm and continuing until 8:00 pm. On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at one o’clock in the afternoon, Funeral Services will be held likewise at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home, with Gary Black serving as the officiant. After the funeral, the body will be interred in Rose Crest Cemetery with full military honors, and the grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Gilbert Adams and the Westwood Life Group from Capital City Christian Church have been asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. It is advised that memorial contributions be made to Bluegrass Hospice Care, which can be found at 1733 Harrodsburg Road in Lexington, Kentucky 40504.
