Bill Burris Obituary, Death – The news of Bill Burris’s passing has left all of us here at Camp Wilmot in a state of mourning this morning. Bill has been involved in Camp Wilmot for many, many years in a variety of ways; however, one of the most significant ways was through the scholarship program that he created some ten years ag
(now known as the “Bill Burris Campership Fund”). Bill has been interested in Camp Wilmot for a very long time. Because of this program, approximately 400 young people have been given the chance to participate in the summer camps offered by Camp Wilmot while receiving full funding for their attendance. Everyone in the neighborhood is aware of how committed Bill was to this cause, and they frequently inquire as to how many young people you will be
able to sponsor this year. Long before this, Bill resided on the property and could be seen in the workshop teaching children and young people how to weave, make their own wooden games, and work with wood. Bill, a respected neighbor who had a substantial amount of expertise regarding how the water system and everything else around the
site operated, responded to several calls for assistance over the course of several years. Everyone who had the opportunity to know him and benefit from his expertise and skills, as well as his real loving and giving heart, will mourn his passing with great sadness. Bill has arrived safely at the house of his Heavenly Father. Congratulations, you have been a good and faithful servant. The first image is Bill weaving on one of the many looms that he took to
the summer camp he worked at every year. In the second photo, Bill is shown with two of his and our very close friends as well as neighbors, Bill and Margaret Doody. They have graciously agreed to take over the fundraising efforts for the scholarship program in order to ensure that this legacy will live on.
